How to sell your car without Facebook Marketplace
List your car without a Facebook account. Prepare your photos, set your price, and manage a free CarTruvo pilot listing from draft to sale.

You can sell your car without Facebook Marketplace by using a dedicated car-listing website, asking a dealer for a purchase offer, or trading the vehicle toward another car. If you want to choose your asking price and speak with interested buyers yourself, a CarTruvo private listing is one option.
CarTruvo does not require a Facebook account. Private listings are free during our pilot, with no credit card required. This guide walks through the listing process and the responsibilities you keep as the seller. For a platform comparison, read CarTruvo vs. Facebook Marketplace.
Choose a private listing or a purchase offer
Start by deciding whether you want to find an individual buyer or ask a business to buy your vehicle. With a private listing, you prepare the advertisement, answer questions, and arrange the sale. A business purchase offer may involve a different price and process.
On CarTruvo, list your car starts the private-listing route. Sell my car sends your vehicle details to CarTruvo for potential purchase review. A review request is not a guaranteed offer. Keeping those routes separate helps you choose the experience you actually want.
Step 1: prepare the information once
Gather your VIN, year, make, model, trim, mileage, asking price, and vehicle location. Write down known defects, title status, liens, and relevant maintenance. Check the information against the car and your records instead of copying another seller’s description.
Use our guide to selling a car to organize your plan. If there is an outstanding loan, work out the lender payoff and title process before promising a buyer immediate delivery.
A useful listing answers the questions a buyer would otherwise need to ask one at a time. Specific details give someone a basis for deciding whether to contact you. They do not guarantee an inquiry or sale.
Step 2: photograph the actual vehicle
Take clear daylight photos of the front, rear, both sides, wheels, dashboard, front and rear seats, and cargo area. Include close-ups of visible damage. Remove personal belongings and avoid showing financial documents or a full photograph of your title.
CarTruvo requires actual vehicle photos you have permission to use. At least one photo is needed to submit a listing, but a useful set should explain the car’s condition from several angles. Do not substitute stock or generated images for the vehicle you are selling.
Step 3: save a draft and submit for review
Create an account, enter the vehicle information, and save your draft. Upload your photos, review the price and description, and submit the listing. It must be approved before it appears publicly.
Under the current marketplace terms, approved listings run for 30 days. Changes to the vehicle details or photos take a listing offline until you submit it and it is approved again. Allow for that review step when correcting information or updating your listing.
Listing approval is not an inspection or certification. You remain responsible for accurate disclosures and for having ownership or authority to sell the car.
Step 4: manage conversations from your account
Check your CarTruvo account for messages. Answer concrete questions about the vehicle, inspection arrangements, and availability. Do not rely on receiving an email alert before checking for a response.
Here is a starting reply you can adapt: “Thanks for your interest. The car is currently available at [asking price]. The known issues are [details]. What would you like to confirm before arranging a viewing or inspection?”
Keep the discussion focused on the car. Do not send identity documents, banking credentials, or payment information through messages. An account conversation is a way to coordinate, not proof that a transaction or payment is safe.
Step 5: prepare the handoff and close the listing
Private buyers and sellers arrange inspections, payment, title transfer, registration, taxes, and transportation between themselves. CarTruvo does not collect vehicle payments or hold deposits for private sales in this pilot. Confirm the required transfer steps with the relevant agency using the USAGov motor vehicle directory.
Agree on the vehicle, price, included items, and pickup arrangements in writing. Discuss payment verification with your bank before releasing the car. Keep the required records and use the sale-day paperwork checklist to organize the documents.
Mark your CarTruvo listing sold when the sale is complete, or withdraw it if you stop selling. If you also advertised elsewhere, update those listings so buyers are not contacting you about an unavailable car.
Why try a car-focused site?
You may prefer a dedicated account for your car sale, a structured vehicle listing, and selling resources alongside the marketplace. Those are reasons to try CarTruvo even if you do not want to use Facebook. You do not need to assume one site is best for every car or every seller.
A free pilot listing lets you evaluate the experience without a listing payment. It does not guarantee more inquiries, a sale date, or the price you will receive. Start your CarTruvo listing when your details and photos are ready.
